Hi, we are Ana and Arti and we are looking for a new team member!
I am a Housekeeping supervisor in Hotel Jakarta in Amsterdam, the winner of “the most beautiful public building of 2019!”.
When people think about housekeeping, they think about cleaning dusty rooms, but half of this hotel is public area, among which our sub-tropical garden! It is a big challenge to keep every clean and tidy, but it satisfies a lot when you see that we have a 94% score on cleaning!
Checking rooms and public areas is a part of our job, but the real challenge is in training and developing our (new) housekeeping colleagues into good room attendants. It is important to set a good example with an eye for detail. You need leadership skills, a big passion for running a team and a lot of teamwork in this function, this way we can keep an positive atmosphere within our team.
In the morning, I start my day with making the lists for our room attendants. Not on paper or in excel, but through our app. This app tells me which room is a check-out, which a stay over and which needs a linen change. During the opening of the day in our staff canteen, we instruct our colleagues, give them the focus points of that week and hand out the keys and the lists. Luckily, in our app they can see which rooms have already checked out, so they can start quickly. As soon as they finish cleaning, I get a notification and I know which room to check. After checking, through the app I can inform the front office that a room is ready. But the best thing is that after cleaning any room, I will open the door and smell and see our garden! That is what gives us the energy to go the extra mile!
We work with a big range of different cultures, sometimes we need some extra patience to understand each other, this makes the job very interesting and diversified.. We would like to expand our team with somebody that is pro-active and likes to find solutions.
