About the Fries Museum:

The Fries Museum is a dynamic museum in the heart of the bustling city of Leeuwarden. Step inside the modern building and be inspired by your favourite stories or works of art. The museum is the cultural hotspot of the North. Surprising, constantly changing exhibitions tell stories from the Middle Ages to M.C. Escher. Immerse yourself in Friesland: from the unique Hindelooper style room and the battle with water to leading design and masters such as Rembrandt and Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema.

New at the Fries Museum: Wybrand de Geest. In this exhibition, you will be introduced to Wybrand de Geest, one of the most important Frisian portrait painters of the 17th century. He immortalised regents, mayors and members of the nobility in impressive portraits full of detail and character. The exhibition not only shows his paintings, but also restored works in which new elements have been discovered. A unique opportunity to meet the Frisian elite of that time up close.
