International certificate for corporate social responsibility

Green Key is the international quality mark for sustainable companies in the tourism sector and business market. Companies that have a Green Key certification are serious about sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and take care of nature, the company and their environment. WestCord Hotels is proactively committed to doing more about the environment than legislation and regulations require.

Certified Green Key accommodations will always make economical use of water and energy. For example, by using energy-saving lamps, light sensors, timers for heating and air conditioning and solar panels.

Sustainability measures WestCord Hotels

Hotel New York Rotterdam

Hotel New York, housed in the former headquarters of the Holland America Line, won the Golden Green Key at the end of October 2011. Hotel New York has chosen a sustainable policy that aims to be careful to deal with people, the environment and the planet with the following measures.

  • In front of the hotel on the Wilhelmina Pier is a charging point for electric vehicles.
  • The showers in the rooms of Hotel New York have water savings.
  • Hotel New York has a custom lighting plan, with the aim to reduce consumption.
  • Hotel New York uses sustainable printing.

Fashion Hotel Amsterdam

Fashion Hotel Amsterdam is recognized for the following activities regarding sustainable development.

  • There are water savers installed in the Fashion Hotel.
  • The Fashion Hotel is working to replace all halogen lights for LED.
  • The voltage is reduced by a transformer from 240V to 218V in the entire Fashion Hotel.
  • The Fashion Hotel uses local and organic products in the Fashion’s Restaurant menu.
  • The waste is separated in the hotel (for example separate collection of film).
  • In Fashion Hotel uses a Swill plant, where all kitchen and garden waste is collected through a tank.

Art Hotel Amsterdam

Art Hotel Amsterdam got the Golden Green Key in 2010. On December 16 2010, the official mark was awarded by the Councillor for Economic Affairs, Amsterdam West district. The following following measures have been taken regarding sustainability.

  • The Art Hotel has set up a lighting plan to replace the halogen lamps with LED lamps.
  • Fair trade products are served and dishes are in accordance with the fish guide featured in The Art Brasserie.
  • Throughout the Art Hotel water savers are fitted to all taps and shower.
  • WestCord Art Hotel has a charging point for electric vehicles.

WTC Hotel Leeuwarden

In 2011 the WTC Hotel Leeuwarden and the WTC Expo jointly received a Golden Green Key certificate.

  • The hotel water savers used in all taps, showers and toilets.
  • All the lights in the hotel are energy efficient.
  • The floors of the meeting rooms in the hotel are provided with elements for cooling or heating.
  • The keycard is the key to the hotel room. The keycard is also used to activate the electricity in the room. When the guest leaves the room again, the power turns off automatically to avoid waste.
  • Recently, the hotel offers the possibility of video conferencing. Videoconferencing can communicate with live video and audio between two or more locations. This can mean a significant saving both travel time and travel costs for companies. Another plus of course, is that it contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Hotel Schylge

Hotel Schylge has achieved the Green Key in 2013. The following measures have been taken on sustainable development.

  • Green Team: This team is looking at purchasing / policy decisions to the most responsible choice.
  • Training for staff to work environmentally.
  • Use eco cleaning and laundry products.
  • Various water-saving measures, without the guest affected.
  • Waste separation, among others, paper, glass, plastic, cork, cartridges, light bulbs and batteries.
  • No incandescent / halogen lamps more, only LED and energy-saving lamps throughout the company.
  • Kitchen work as much as possible with certified products, organic ingredients, local / islander raw materials and Waddengoud products.
  • Purchase as much as possible at CSR certified companies.
  • Reducing paper use and procurement of eco-paper.
  • Eco-friendly fire extinguisher.

ApartHotel Boschrijck

Aparthotel Boschrijck has achieved the Green Key in 2013. The hotel is thus recognized for the following activities concerning sustainability.

  • Green Team: This team is looking at purchasing / policy decisions to the most responsible choice.
  • Training for staff to work environmentally.
  • Use eco cleaning and laundry products.
  • Various water-saving measures, without the guest affected.
  • Waste separation, among others, paper, glass, plastic, cork, cartridges, light bulbs and batteries.

City Centre Hotel Amsterdam

In May 2013 City Centre Hotel Amsterdam has received the Green Key.

Hotel Delft

In 2013, Hotel Delft received the Green Key.

“WestCord Hotel Delft has been working on sustainability and it’s good that we’re Green Key certified” says Edo Garretsen, General Manager at WestCord Hotel Delft. “We are convinced that working sustainably is the future. Our relations also like to see that we’re focusing on sustainability. And we are happy to invest in that. We can already see the use of gas decreasing, as well as water and power. That’s good for the environment and the company.”

“Working sustainably is becoming a trend in the Netherlands. But it’s more than just saving on energy. We also support other initiatives. For example we also offer organic dishes at our restaurant, BLUE DINING. We also have an organic wine on the menu” says Bart van Egdom, Green Key coordinator of the Hotel.
